Seventeen-year-old Clara Gabrielle Haslop started her piano studies at the late age of 10. Within one year she won the Robert Turner Piano Concerto Competition and made her debut with the Los Angeles Doctors Symphony. A year later, at age 12, she was admitted to the prestigious Colburn Young Artist Summer Academy, which she attended for three consecutive years.
She has won many top awards in regional and international competitions including the International Youth Piano Competition, American Protégé International Piano Competition, numerous California statewide competitions that encompass CAPMT (concerto and solo), Kathryn Gawartin Chopin Competition and MTAC Solo Honors Division.
In 2018 Clara made her Carnegie Hall debut as a top-prize winner of the AFAF International Concerto Competition and invited to perform the Grieg piano concerto with the Kostroma Symphony in Russia. She has also performed under noted conductors Uri Segal, Gaddiel Dombrowner and John Roscigno with the Thousand Oaks Philharmonic, L.A. Doctors Symphony and Virtuosi Brunensis Virtuosi Orchestra in Italy.
Masterclasses with Gary Graffman, Simone Dinnerstein, Jerome Lowenthal, Oxana Yablonskaya, Jon Nakamatsu, John Perry, Angela Cheng, Alan Chow, Sasha Starcevich, Christopher O’Riley, Ory Shihor, Charles Abramovic, Haochen Zhang and Yoshikazu Nagai have inspired her immensely. In early 2020 Clara had the honor to have a private lesson with Emanuel Ax at Disney Hall.
In April 2020 Clara was invited by Steinway & Sons to be their young showcase artist on the first Steinway Virtual Masterclass with Christopher O/Riley.
Major venues at which she has performed are Disney Hall, Carnegie Hall, Zipper Hall, Cypress Hall, Sala dei Notari in Perugia, Italy, Steinway Hall in Pasadena and Beverly Hills, the Philadelphia Academy of Vocal Arts and the Thousand Oaks Performing Arts Center.
Clara has attended numerous international piano festivals, including Music Fest Perugia in Italy, the John Perry International Piano Academy, the International Philadelphia Young Pianists Academy, Aloha International Piano Festival and the Colburn Young Artists Summer Academy.
Currently a student of Rufus Choi, Clara has previously studied with Professor Dmitry Rachmanov and Ory Shihor. In the summer of 2019 she decided to pursue her undergraduate Piano Performance degree a year earlier than planned. She is currently completing both her Junior and Senior High School credits.
Clara will be pursuing a Bachelor of Music at the Manhattan School of Music as a scholarship student of Dr. Jeffrey Cohen in the fall of 2020, having been admitted at age 17, seven years after she began her piano studies.
